CALMR x UNLOST Dens collaborate - The Science of Slowing Down + Winter + Nature = Deep Work

The Science of Slowing Down + Winter + Nature

i am a big fan of Neuroscientist Andrew Huberman from Stanford. He describes a whole load of things including how landscape, temperature, and touch all play a role in resetting our nervous system. So when I am looking out across a vast, open space—like the South Downs— it is easy to see the triggers a widening of our visual field, which in turn lowers stress and shifts us into a more relaxed state. Exposure to cold air [in this winter season] also increases nervous system resilience, while deep pressure stimulation (DPS)—like the gentle weight of a CALMR Hug—activates oxytocin release, reducing cortisol and enhancing relaxation

The result? A nervous system reset.

CALMR x Unlost Dens – A Collaboration for Deep Rest

This is why CALMR is now part of the Unlost Dens experience—Kim Slade’s beautifully curated, off-grid hideaways designed for true disconnection and deep rest.

Kim references Cal Newport's Deep Work as key in this world for knowledge workers.

“Make deep work a priority, supporting this decision with strategies will significantly increase the probability that you succeed."

- Cal Newport, Deep Work

I love Cal's work too, discovered on Bruce Daisleys Eat, Sleep, Work, Repeat Podcast - well worth a listen.

As a focus for Deep Work, in this Den Life, Kim's accessible space without distractions improves focus and productivity.  Time in nature to improve clarity and creativity.

My experience  = because there’s no buildings. No need for notifications. Just space, firelight, and the tools to truly switch off. Wrapped in a CALMR Hug, with nothing but the open sky and rolling hills in front of you, I found you can feel your body let go—of tension, of urgency, of noise. I loved it!

So, if you are in Sussex and you’ve been craving space to breathe, reflect, and reset, Unlost Dens is where you’ll find it.

Explore more at Unlost Dens.

And always wear a CALMR Hug to enhance the experience in the Den - or at home in your own Den!
